A Personal Crisis Plan

Creating a personal crisis plan involves preparing for potential mental health crises by identifying warning signs, coping strategies, and local resources that can provide assistance. Here's a step-by-step guide to developing your own personal crisis plan with the help of local resources:
Step 1: Recognize Your Warning Signs

Self-awareness: Identify early warning signs that suggest a crisis might be developing. These could be changes in thoughts, feelings, or behaviors, such as increased anxiety, mood swings, or withdrawal from social activities.
Document Signs: Keep a journal or list of these signs to help recognize when you might need to implement your crisis plan.

Step 2: Develop Coping Strategies

Personal Coping Mechanisms: List the strategies that have helped you in the past during stressful times, such as deep breathing exercises, going for a walk, listening to music, or talking to a friend.
Professional Techniques: If you've learned specific techniques from therapists or counselors, like mindfulness or grounding exercises, include these as well.

Step 3: Identify Your Support System

Personal Contacts: Include contact information for friends, family members, or mentors who can provide support during a crisis.
Professional Contacts: List contact details for your therapist, psychiatrist, or any other healthcare professionals involved in your care.

Step 4: Research Local Resources

Social Services: Contact local social services for information on mental health support, including counseling services, support groups, or crisis intervention teams.
Healthcare Facilities: Identify nearby hospitals or clinics that offer mental health services and note their emergency and non-emergency contact numbers.
Community Resources: Look for local non-profits or community centers that provide mental health resources or workshops.

Step 5: Document Emergency Contacts

Crisis Hotlines: Include national and local crisis hotline numbers, such as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800-273-TALK) or a local crisis center's hotline.
Emergency Services: Have the number for emergency services (911 in the U.S.) readily available for situations that require immediate medical attention.

Step 6: Outline a Communication Plan

Information Sharing: Decide in advance what information you're comfortable sharing about your mental health with friends, family, and healthcare providers during a crisis.
Consent Forms: Consider completing consent forms that allow healthcare providers to communicate with designated friends or family members about your care.

Step 7: Make Your Plan Accessible

Keep Copies Handy: Have copies of your crisis plan in easily accessible places, such as in your wallet, on your phone, and with a trusted friend or family member.
Digital Copies: Store a digital version of your plan in a place that can be accessed quickly, like in an email or cloud storage.

Step 8: Review and Update Regularly

Periodic Reviews: Revisit your crisis plan regularly to update it based on new insights, coping strategies, or changes in your support network.
Post-Crisis Reflection: After a crisis, review your plan to assess what worked well and what could be improved.

Creating a personal crisis plan is a proactive step in managing your mental health. It's important to remember that this plan is a living document that can and should be adjusted as your needs and circumstances change. Involving your healthcare provider in the planning process can also provide valuable insights and suggestions.
Conclusion:
This crisis plan is a testament to our community's commitment to supporting each other during challenging times. Utilizing these resources and following safety precautions can pave the way for healing and recovery. Remember, you are not alone, and there is always help available.

IS THIS REALLY FOR BEGINNERS ?

I often get asked if my classes are suitable for beginners. The answer is yes – all my classes cater to beginners, but it's important to recognize that beginners come in various stages. There are beginners who haven't painted in years or have never painted before, those ready for some color mixing and technique challenges, and those eager to tackle more advanced work while still needing guidance. Each of these types falls under the "beginner" umbrella.

When you attend a demo that doesn't provide step-by-step instruction and instead focuses on the artist's process, thought, and design without breaking it down into smaller parts, you're no longer a beginner. For instance, I can watch a time-lapse video of a painting and understand exactly how the artist created it without needing the steps. However, if you still require in-depth, thoroughly explained instruction for every color mix and brushstroke, you're a beginner – and that's perfectly fine! Beginners are AWESOME!!

The key is to understand what kind of beginner you are. That's why I use the one, two, and three "hoot" scale to indicate a project's complexity. One hoot suits those who haven't painted before or in a long time, while two hoots cater to those ready for more acrylic technique challenges but who may not have a full range of colors, tools, or stamina for lengthy classes.

This particular class is designed for confident beginners and will be broken down into steps, with each step explained in depth. I will demonstrate every part live, and a traceable will be provided. However, expect the class to take me a couple of hours, which could translate to two or three times longer for the student.

To determine if you're ready for a class, consider the following questions: How confident are you with color mixing? Can you effortlessly transition between dry brushing and blending with acrylics? Do you own an array of brushes, canvases, and paints? Are you painting a couple of times a month, maybe even once a week? Can you sit comfortably for extended periods? (Note that some health issues may prevent people from sitting for long periods, even if their skill set is more than adequate.)

If many of these concepts seem overwhelming or you're still struggling with them, you're likely in the one or two hoot stage. If you're mixing colors easily, can perform basic acrylic techniques without difficulty, but still need considerable direction, you're ready for a three hoot paintin g
Materials for Acrylic April

During this year's Acrylic April, I used a more diverse range of brushes compared to previous years. Part of the reason for this was due to my travels, which meant I had to work with the brushes I had on hand. As a result, you may notice that I used different brands of brushes that serve similar purposes.
To help you plan and organize your own brush collection, I have created two lists: a complete list and a simplified shopping list. The complete list includes every single tool I used, while the simplified list contains a more streamlined selection of essential brushes and tools.
You don't necessarily need to own every brush I've used, even though each one is of high quality and comes highly recommended. Instead, use the complete list as a guide to help you build a personalized, simplified brush plan, or to help you identify brushes you already own that can serve similar purposes.
By referring to both the complete and simplified lists, you can make informed decisions about which brushes to purchase or use, ensuring that you have the tools you need without feeling overwhelmed by an extensive collection.

  Happy painting!

Welcome to the wonderful world of watercolor. I'm so excited that you might be interested in taking up this medium with me. Just like I love teaching acrylic to beginners, I enjoy introducing beginner's to the Wonder and Magic that is watercolor.

Watercolor weekly evening class that's fully step by step to introduce new artists to the joys of watercolor. It's just like our livestream acrylic class on YouTube, but with Watercolor. Classes are level friendly, fully step by step to introduce new artist to the joys of watercolor. Watercolor is one of my favorite mediums. I just love it.

What materials do you need ?
We have a new kit for 2023 !

Dont Worry I have an Exchange for our Pigmented colors so you can easily swap back and forth. Just use the correct color from either your pigment paint or the sheets on any of the lessons!!

The watercolor classes I offer are designed so that you can follow along using exactly what I'm using or what you already have. In terms of color mixing, watercolor is more forgiving than acrylic paint. I find that most people are comfortable with slight differences in color in their paintings. We're all unique, so I'll explain exactly what I'm using every time. I am introducing my line and wash watercolor kits for 2023. They are designed to work with older classes, and there is a cheat sheet for color exchanges so you can go back and forth easily.
When you have time, I recommend watching a couple of classes. My Instagram videos contain some watercolor classes that are unique. They are much older. While I have watercolors on my acrylic channel, I have been focusing on the watercolor channel in the last couple of years. There are sometimes hidden gems on Facebook as well. It's okay, most of the classes you'll want to watch are on the watercolor YouTube channel. This is just to let you know where you might find a cookie or a surprise. Our website also offer a search of my watercolor lessons.

Where do I get the Line and Wash designs
#1 You buy our prints on 140lb paper from the Store

9x12 140lb 300 GSM Watercolor Paper Cold press in a Block pad

What is a watercolor block?

A watercolor block is a pad of watercolor paper that’s bound on all sides with a coating of a rubber like material called padding compound.. You paint on the top sheet of paper and then remove it after it fully dries flat. To separate the painting from the block, insert a dull palette knife into the gap in the binding and run it around all four edges. A watercolor block helps prevent the warping of the paper when it is wet.

If you have a regular pad of paper you can tape all of edges of the sheet to the table with low take tape and then carefully peel them after the sheep its dry.

  Is it hard ?
Like everything, it can be a little challenging in the beginning to learn how to do something new. However, watercolor is a very beginner friendly medium and I find people can pick it up as quickly as they did acrylic, sometimes even easier.
  Can I use Acrylics ?
You can use acrylics watered down to get some similar effects to watercolor. The paper is a good binder and prevents issues with watering down that you might normally see on canvas. There are a few differences. It's very easy to lift or reactivate watercolor. Once acrylic is dry it's permanent. Watercolor is very transparent and acrylic can be much more opaque. Some techniques are different. You can paint acrylic over watercolor. You can't paint watercolor over acrylic. I don't recommend using acrylic on fine watercolor brushes as it can build up in the ferrule and shorten the life of a brush. Watercolor will not harm acrylic brushes in any way and you can use what you have until you're ready to buy special brushes just for watercolor.
Do I need to have your exact materials?
You can use what you have. If you have Crayola watercolors, start with those. I will talk about how to guess a close approximate color on the palette you have so you can paint along and still get a good result
Can I view your classes at a later time?

What if you Bought our Covid Watercolor Art Kits During Covid?

If you purchased one of the watercolor sets that we had in our store during the initial lockdown. you may wonder what colors exchange well for the new 2021 art palette. You may also wonder if there's a difference between the tube watercolor and the half pan watercolor. In this blog I'm going to let you know what colors in your palette to use when I'm using the 2021 colors. I'm going to give you some resources to match the colors you have to the colors I'm using and just in general make your watercolor experience easier.

#2 Free you can print your own on your own watercolor paper from the Traceables tab!! I love ya either way

    Paper

How much Does it cost ?
  Its Free
You can watch my classes after the video is done streaming both on Youtube and on our website www.theartsherpa.com
What level of painter do I need to be ?

What if you Bought our Covid Watercolor Art Kits During Covid?

If you purchased one of the watercolor sets that we had in our store during the initial lockdown. you may wonder what colors exchange well for the new 2021 art palette. You may also wonder if there's a difference between the tube watercolor and the half pan watercolor. In this blog I'm going to let you know what colors in your palette to use when I'm using the 2021 colors. I'm going to give you some resources to match the colors you have to the colors I'm using and just in general make your watercolor experience easier.

In an effort to make sure that everyone has an equal opportunity to claim prizes and giveaways on The Art Sherpa Tutorials, we are creating this list, which we will keep updated. Once the list has been provided to the community on either the theartsherpa.com Blog or via email to our community list, winners will have 10 days to claim their prize.

Prints and physical giveaways that must be mailed are mailed at no cost to the winner if the winner lives in the contiguous United States. If you are an international winner, you will be given an option to pay the difference or forfeit the prize. We will honor those tutorials where we said we would ship up to and including a $35 postage fee, but after those prizes are claimed or rewarded to other persons, we will no longer make that offer. This only because shipping costs have skyrocketed.
If you see your name on this list, and you wish to claim your prize, you MUST create a help ticket be sending an email to support@theartsherpa.com and with the subject line of "I WON A PRIZE". Your email must include your name, complete mailing address, zip code, and your email if you want to be provided with a tracking number when it is mailed.

This is the pinned class schedule in the link guide for Acrylic April. I will update these links as we go. This will remain at the top of the page in the group. You can refer to this anytime to locate Acrylic April 2021 Resources, and Videos for each day.

2021 Schedule : Each class we'll have a Prep live stream on Facebook at 4 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Those videos can be watched later. You do not need to watch them to do acrylic April. This is extra help for those that would like it. Each prep class will cover the mini book, go over resources, and a brief discussion of what the video will be covering and the techniques will be used.

Each day at 11 Am EST The full lesson video will be on YouTube as a premiere. A premier allows a live chat during a video. I will be in the live chat to answer questions and help students in any way I can.

How to Paint Acrylic April by The Art Sherpa
“Acrylic April is HERE”
March 31, 2021

This is our third year of daily painting because nothing transforms an artist more than daily painting. Now, I teach 30 days, but for you, you make the program work for you. I do not have an Acrylic April Officer who will show up at your house if you miss one.

My husband is John, aka Stunt Hands, and, yes, he will be in all the lives and he will heckle me and he will speak. That is his job; he is non negotiable. We created the two person format and we talk a lot. I use my ipad because I need assets and resources from time to time; you won’t have my passwords.

This year has a theme: A Story of Water, a New Beginning.

How do you find AA?

Facebook - did you join the Acrylic April Challenge Group; come find us, we are a cool group. Facebook is not just for chatting and making friends, at least not in the Art Sherpa World. There are resources. Look at the top, you see “About, Discussion, Announcements, Rooms, Topics, Members, Events, Media and Files”. Have you ever clicked off of “discussion” before? Announcements are my posts that have information that you will care about. There is one for every day in Acrylic April that we have done so far. The first post is a calendar of what we are doing every day. If you click the “see more”, there are links for traceables, the mini books, files, everything that you need.
Events show all the pre-shows, just click them. Albums are each day’s resources reference grid worksheet traceable and word prompts for the month.
Files are another important thing. The mini book is there with color mixing legend and the brushes and even a description of each individual step. There are pictures that accompany every single step in the book. You don’t even have to print it out.
Look in the Pre-Show File for that day. TONS OF STUFF!!!

The most important post is the sunflower picture that says “TRUST THE PROCESS, ENJOY THE JOURNEY”. You probably feel overwhelmed and do not know what to expect. Read the posts from people who have done this before.

Make The Color Chart

The Art Sherpa website is www.theartsherpa.com .

Traceables Tab on the front page will take you to all my traceables.
Look in the Acrylic April Tab for all my previous challenges.
Go to the Calendar and select April, there are this year’s paintings. Click one to go to it’s event page which has everything on it.
If you go back to April 2019, it will take you to that program and you can go directly to the painting you want from previous years.

Patron - Ignore more of what’s up there now. We are transitioning to a new website and right now, the Patrons are getting to preview and prepaint Acrylic April videos and see mini books and get naming rights to my tutorials. If you sign up for even the $5.00 level, you are going to get most of what you need. We will be changing the Patron Program when we go to the new website so there is just one level of Patron; much easier.
Big Art Quest will take you to our new website if you’d like to start looking at it.

If you are interested in being a volunteer for The Art Sherpa, or if you have any kind of a question about our program or our products, send an email to support@theartsherpa.com and we will respond.

LABs is our licensing and business support program where teaching artists subscribe in order to have permission to use The Art Sherpa developed intellectual property in their business (like teaching at a “paint and sip” party).

The basics broken down:

Go to Facebook and ask to join the Acrylic April Challenge.

Show up on April 1 at 11 am EST on YouTube to paint Acrylic April Day 1. Show up subsequent days at the same time to paint other days.

Show up on April 1 at 4 pm EST on Facebook to attend the preshow for Acrylic April Day 2. If you don’t want to attend, visit either the website or the Facebook group to get your mini book if you want to review the tutorial in advance and be prepared.

Post your paintings in the Acrylic April Challenge group.

Watercolor Wednesdays will be on YouTube, on the new channel, “How To Paint Watercolor Live with The Art Sherpa”, at 1 pm EST on Wednesday during April.
Featured Artist : Tamara Laport

  Founder/owner of Willowing Arts

Cinnamon asked Tamara (aka Tam) a few questions, here is what she had to say.
How did visual art become part of your life ?

I loved Creating art from a young age, I admired my mothers doodling and my grandmother's paintings! I loved how it felt to create something new, so in high school I decided to study art and art history which I thoroughly enjoyed. My high school art teacher was one of my favourite people in the world! I then decided to go to Art School in Amsterdam (I'm from Holland originally) and that was a very different experience. It was nowhere near as fun as my high school art lessons and pretty depressing to be honest. I left that school after a year or so but I didn't stop creating. While working in a call centre and later while working in a junior school in Sri Lanka, I kept making art. It was at this point I discovered art journaling and mixed media art and something just "clicked" for me and I never looked back ;)

You are a Mom, Artist, Teacher, Author, and activist what advice can you give on how to keep it all in balance?

Self Care. You cannot give from an empty cup. If you are someone like me that wears many hats, it's imperative that you build in/plan in a 'self care routine' / 'recharging time for yourself into your schedule. It's not selfish, its helpful. When you are well nourished emotionally, psychologically, physically, you can be your happiest self and support others the best way you can. Self Care rocks!

What is Non Violent Communication and how does it help you in your life?

Non-violent Communication (NVC) is a way of life or an approach to life that incorporates non-violent principles developed by Marshall Rosenberg. It assumes that all human beings are capable of connecting compassionately with others and when they don't and choose violent ways of behaving that they do so because they have not been able to find more effective strategies to meet needs.
The NVC approach avoids 'right/wrong - good bad' thinking and instead focuses on the feelings and (universal) needs of human beings with an emphasis on trying to create deep connection & understanding between people (in conflict). Self empathy, kindness, clarity and authentic expression are all part of it.
When I first started studying NVC in 2005 it radically changed my life and how I viewed the world and the people in it. The approach has had an amazing impact on my relationships with my family, friends, the people I work with and even how I run my business.

You are both a visual artist and a singer. What is your favorite song to sing and your favorite subject to paint?

O ooh that is a hard one! I love so many songs! Ok, if I had to choose Id say 'Vincent - Starry Starry Night or 'Famous Blue Raincoat' for the songs and my favourite subjects to paint are; faces/portraits and quirky animals for sure! :) Lately: abstracts are calling me again, but I flirt with them more than anything :-)

The world is going through a very hard time right now and you have shared your experience through this online. What are your personal self care routines that help you through difficult times?

Eating all the cake! Just kidding ....It's been rough for sure. Here are some of my tips for rough times (any, rough times):
Allow your feelings to be; sit with them, don't avoid them, they will spill out in other ways. It's ok to cry, it's ok to be low, it's ok to be down. Imagine feelings like little people that need attention. Often when you give even the slightest amount of attention to a feeling its intensity already starts to lessen.
Go slower (if possible), breathe more consciously (we often breathe shallowly in times of stress), rest more if you can
Talk to people about what's going on for you. Either get a good therapist on zoom, make a weekly zoom date with a friend or talk to your spouse/partner/a family member or friend about whats happening for you. Art your feelings out! Creativity is a great way to express your feelings and it helps put the mind in a meditative calming space. Creating is a great therapeutic tool.

You have a Class where I am a guest teacher alongside 30 other amazing teachers called Lifebook. How did Lifebook get started ? Who is lifebook for ?

Life Book started 11 years ago when I was pregnant with my 2nd child Elliot, and I had just run a free course called: Art Heart & Healing. The feedback from this course was amazing, the combination of art and personal development really seemed to speak to people, so I dreamed up this idea of running a year long course (it was the first one then, no one was running year long courses at that point!) that included several amazing artists with a focused theme of personal development where we looked at things like 'how to work through limiting beliefs' and 'understanding the inner critic' how to work through creative block etc as well as learning how to create beautiful art. As someone who has suffered from trauma as a child I yearned to help others 'feel happier in life', so Life Book took off in 2012 and was a huge success! We've been running it ever since. This course is great for people who love learning how to create beautiful mixed media art and who may also want to develop personally through finding more self compassion, engaging in self care and growing their personal development toolkit.

What new events or projects are you excited about right now?

2 Years ago I ran a big bundled art sale called Art For Earth in which we raised approx $35, 000 USD for Tree sisters (an organisation that fights climate change through planting tress, yay :) We will run this project again this year at the end of March 2021! It's what I am really excited about right now! - more info Coming soon

   Gnomascope Pisces -
Congratulations; you made it through 2020 . Whether 2021 will be better is yet to be seen, but it will certainly not be boring. There will be many opportunities for healing if you just take advantage of them. You’ve been stagnant long enough and are probably likely looking to the future and what things are going to look like. Your mission for 2021 is to do what you can to heal past wounds, and to keep your eyes forward so that you're ready for whatever comes next. You are a deeply psychic and empathic sign. Last year, you internalized a lot of the pain felt by the world at large, and it's likely you needed a lot of the space we were all forced to take so that you could do some intense processing. Wake UP!!!! It's time that you do what you can to adjust to your new reality and come out of your fishbowl. Right now, you can also expect to see shifts in your relationships, romantic or otherwise. Whatever the case, it would be wise to deepen your meditation practice and don’t hesitate to work with a therapist if you feel the need .

Insight into the Gnome Love Department -
The Pisces love connection will be well-influenced and the home offers a quiet and balanced life, something you really need during this period. If you made a great promise to your lover, you will be forced to honor it. This will make you feel very uncomfortable because you don’t like to be constrained in any way. Get rid of your obligations and be more circumspect from now on. The planetary influxes emphasize continuity in your sentimental life. This is why the couple life is not going to cause serious issues. For the single Pisces, the chances of finding a partner will increase. DO NOT be hasty. Let time pass in order to know your partner before you get seriously involved in a relationship. Don’t be too discreet or too shy if you are around someone who causes you strong emotions. Express your feelings. Don’t be surprised if you become romantic and feel a certain nostalgia for the past but DO NOT revive any love from the past: you risk to relive an already forgotten pain. Venus, well-directed, will easily influence you, and your need for tenderness is going to be great. Don’t look for happiness somewhere else, but look around you – it is right around the corner. Control your behavior. The single Pisces should think and act cautiously, without hastening the events when it comes to love, especially during the last months of 2021. The crystallization of love is a desired and welcomed phenomenon. Crazy passion.

For Acrylic April will be using a few more brushes so that we can accomplish and learn some new techniques. You do not need to have the exact brand of brushes. When it comes to Bright you might be able to use a single bright there are a lot of ways to save money. my students often paint with different tools and that's not something that I mind at all. This list of brushes and information should be used as a guide and I highly recommend you make this work within your own personal budget or painting process.

I get asked often what student brands of paint I recommend. I also get asked why I recommend the ones that I do. The one I use in my own Studio is Abstract paint by Sennelier
I want to be clear I'm not paid to use this paint. I do have a relationship with the owners of the Savoir-faire and we are friends. They do send me stuff and asked my opinion. However, I've never been asked to give a review. This is an idea I have wanted to do for a really long time.

This is my Friend Pierre from Savoir Faire.
Sometimes we hang out on Instagram

This event is for you. I want you to understand why I think this is a great product. Why it is worth your time and investment. I want to help you know what's available to you in this large amazing product line. I want you to know what's great about it, I'm even going to tell you some challenges you might have. I'm going to be honest with you because I think that is what helps you the most. Of course you know I wouldn't be making a video about it unless I thought it was worth your time. However there's so many colors and different types of acrylic paint that they make you really want to see what the creative opportunities are. The live stream is at 11 a.m. est. We will be streaming from both YouTube and Facebook, so just pick your favorite. We will be featuring special sales for this event that you can take advantage of that are just for you!!

COUPONS for YOU!!!
     Lets Save Money
I'd also like to help you save some money so please check for the amazing coupons from art stores that are participating in the event. They were invited to take part because I honestly believe that you guys having a relationship with art suppliers is so important. Being able to go into a local art store ( when were able to go into a local art store again) creates such a tremendous sense of community. This helps you find art materials you need and discover exciting new ones around every corner, Gives you access to classes, and art opportunities that you wouldn't be able to find from home. Being aware of online retailers can help you find Art Materials when you're unable to travel, give you access to variety of large size stock items like easels or specialty studio equipment. I think both of these things are super important.

Painting straight out of the extra-sturdy pouch through the practical beak makes abstract ideal for both large work and “street art”. The pouch is also economical as totally squeezable, and displays a transparent window for accurate color reference and level check. Sennelier has been indeed modern since 1887.

  - As it fits comfortably into your hand it’s much easier to use. The pouch is so strong that you can take it with you wherever you go and, unlike a tube, it can stand up to pressure even if you accidentally step on it!
  - The paint is better preserved because air cannot get inside the pouch. You can use the paint completely: there is no waste and no air bubbles which may cause the paint to spill out.
  - With abstract, there are no surprises when choosing a color . There's no difference between the color you can see from the outside of the pouch and the inside.

Abstract is composed of 34 single pigment colors among the range’s 60 shades.

   Star Gnomes
                Gnomology Aquarius ~ 21 Jan - 19 Feb :
All that isolated holiday energy has you a little bit burnt out right now. Aquarius Gnomes are feeling the 2020 hangover and you're ready for that personal growth you have been putting off. Social distance concerns, social causes, online fact checking and a lack of connection has made the last revolution of the sun especially hard for you. Perhaps you have fallen in an internet hole or two trying to keep your sharp mind occupied. Your strong views have been a lot of trouble in your online life and it may be time to mend fences; at least the fences you did not already torch with your flame-thrower wit and stunning mind. You are ready for freedom but caution is still a block to the call of your free spirited heart. Take this time to work on self growth. Reflect on what you have learned and turn it into a plan for 2021. As we come to the end of the month, you will feel a new spark of self love and you should fan that spark into a full blown fire. You have been there for everyone this last year and it's time to care for yourself so that YOU can be fully present this year. Set boundaries with open borders. Your loved ones and the world need your level head and intellectual passion to help find the many solutions 2021 is hungry for. You have a short window this spring to get restored . A wise Gnome is a helpful gnome and the village is looking to its leaders for the spring ahead.

Insight into the Gnome Love Department : It is harder for you to accept the gift of love but this year has many gifts in store for you. You have bounties in Jupiter and Saturn and you will find that you are more open to responsible and mutually rewarding relationships. From January 30 to February 20, Mercury is in retrograde, and this is a time during which you will feel less decisive. Listen and take time to decide what relationships need to come back and be replanted and which gnomes can keep rolling on down the garden path. It will be like every gnome from your past seems to pop in and you will be popular with both friends and past flames. You decide who is with you in the toadstool this year and you will have choices. The art of unconditional love
  self care hints and tips
U nconditional Love Bath Bomb Recipe Ingredients and Materials

1 cup baking soda
    1/2 cup citric acid
1/2 cup Epsom salt - I like dead sea salt
    1/2 cup cornstarch
3/4 tsp. Water or witch Hazel
2 tsp essential oil ½ lavender ½ bergamot and 1 rose absolute
2 tsp oil your favorite ( jojoba, sweet almond, coconut are good choices )
A few drops of pink Gell food coloring.
A mold of your choice, such as regular or mini-muffin tins, candy pans, or round plastic molds specifically for bath bombs
Optional: Dried rose flowers I use food grade so can make tea or bake later

    Unconditional Love Bombs Instructions
Step 1: mix the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl
Step 2: Add all of the liquid ingredients in plastic bowl and mix thoroughly
Step 3: Carefully/Slowly Add the liquid mixture into the bowl of dry ingredients, and use your hands to combine and meld together. If you are sensitive to EO you may want to wear gloves. Also it helps keep the gel food coloring from staining your hands.
Sherpa Tips : You may notice a slight fizzing reaction because of the citric acid. No need to panic, as this is totally normal. The mixture should be a bit crumbly (similar to the consistency of wet beach sand). Don't add water at this stage, or the bath bomb will fizz prematurely and you want all that fizz for your bath.
Step 4: press the mixture into your molds very snuggly . You may slightly overfill the molds and use a spoon or glass to press the mixture in as tightly as possible. Immediately loosen the bombs from their molds onto wax paper and let them dry overnight.
Step 4: Give the bath bombs a day or two to completely dry before using them
Step 5 - Add to bath and have a relaxing Lish soak
Secret Step 6 - Clean tub - if you add a lot of oil and petals to your bath this step sneaks up on people but as The Art Sherpa I will tell you this should be planned for.

    Paper

How much Does it cost ?
  Its Free
You can watch my classes after the video is done streaming both on the Facebook page and on our website www.theartsherpa.com

What if you Bought our Covid Watercolor Art Kits?

If you purchased one of the watercolor sets that we had in our store during the initial lockdown. you may wonder what colors exchange well for the new 2021 art palette. You may also wonder if there's a difference between the tube watercolor and the half pan watercolor. In this blog I'm going to let you know what colors in your palette to use when I'm using the 2021 colors. I'm going to give you some resources to match the colors you have to the colors I'm using and just in general make your watercolor experience easier.

    Happy New Year
It's finally here! The New Year and the fresh start we have been waiting for. Yet, unlike the wardrobe in Narnia, going from December 31st to January 1st isn't really a magic door that changes everything. The feeling of starting fresh comes from inside us and the way we hope and feel about the coming year. Many things are the same today as they were just a few days ago. Many challenges of 2020 are still very much present in 2021. Yet I look to 2021 full of hope and a plans for improvement, both personal and as your Art Guide.

  The Plan
I've spent a lot of time thinking about what would make things easier for all of you as you learn to become creative beings. I've looked back at the lessons I have learned as your teacher from last 6 years. I have been a busy bee planning what to do during the 2021 year so that I could make learning art even more fun, easy and accessible. What steps could I take to make your experience as new artist as rewarding as it possibly can be? To create a goldilocks zone of art learning?

  Consistency

Create a core schedule and stick to it as much as power, health and the internet will allow.

  Set Materials

Create a set list of studio and art materials so you can participate in classes knowing far in advance what you will need.
Keep to those materials for all 200+ classes planned for 2021

Communicate early so you can plan

To let you know early what classes are coming in advance
  More newsletters with more information
  Events and posts on Facebook
  Fill the calendar early

  Provide more Learning Resources

Adding mini books supplements your video learning material.
  Structured curriculum class programs

  Add the fun

Include play and games on both the website and newsletter
  Extra Surprise video classes
Share creative and self care tips

My Paint brands of choice are Sennelier Acrylique, Golden Artist Color, or Abstract Acrylic. The links lead to the listed color in all 3 brands.
These products were hand picked by me. First two links are professional grade, and then economy Abstract Acrylic that I personally recommend for student grade.

Naples Yellow Light * Titanite Yellow * Or Naples yellow ??

This is the only complicated part of the new 2021 list. To make it easier to understand what Naples is the right Naples, I wrote a blog. Naples yellow by any other name would be as yellow green, right? No, sadly Naples can run the gamut of stunning light yellow green to bandage bleh. So I just went and found them all.

More Fun facts about Frida and the solution page coming in the next Newsletter.

Frida Kahlo was born on July 6, 1907 in Coyoacan, Mexico City
She lied about her birthday, not to seem younger, but to share her day with the Mexican Revolution
She had polio as a child, was in a catastrophic bus accident, went through 30 surgeries in her life
She started painting in a Body Cast
She was married to artist Diego Rivera - he was a lot
She painted more than 200 paintings depicting the physical and emotional pain of her life
She is the mother of the selfie and one of the greatest icons of modern art

  The Art of Self Care.

  Remember you matter
When you feel calm you can help others
Taking time to be creative helps you imagine solutions to problems
If you have to take care of others remember you do that best from a place of rest, mindfulness and self compassion.
If you need to H.A.L.T. and take a break to reset, Do So!

Hungry : Make sure your body is fed and your blood sugar is balanced.
Angry : Feelings are information. If you are angry remove yourself from the situation until you are calm and ready to explain calmly what you are feeling
Lonely: Human beings are social animals, when we are lonely we struggle. Reach out and connect with someone who cares about you.
Tired: Many of you are carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders right now and rest might be scarce. If you are very tired take every chance you can to rest. If its a nap then take a nap. If it is going to bed earlier, skip that show and watch it later on the DVR.

These are simple things that can help you steer to a better feeling tomorrow.

Painting a Fall tree
#1 Find a Shape that is irregular and interesting to your eye. Remember this shape is three dimensional.
#2 Tree Meditation for Artists
Get comfortable, Close your eyes, and breathe in and out slowly to the count of 4.
To help you “ see” the tree better imagine the tree you are painting on a pedestal that is turning .
Now Add light to the tree from the sun. Feel how warm the sun is. Add a soft breeze.
In your minds picture of your tree as it is turning see the light falling on it and the breeze blowing through it. Can you see its irregular surface. How each leaf is looking for light and rain?
Stop the tree at the view you want to paint it. Keep the light shining on it and the breeze blowing through it. The tree you are painting today is a living breathing thing. Do this for 5 or so minutes until you feel you can see your tree clearly. Once this is done your Artists mind is open and ready to paint.
Open your eyes.

#3 Paint in your deepest fall value for your tree keeping your base tree form. Use the edge of your brush scumbling in the leaves softly. Add your truck and some Bark highlights. Add the deepest value of landscape around the tree.

#4 Add your darker midtones finding those highlights and leaves. The ones you visualized in the shade of other leaves nearer the light. These are the leaves where a small bird may be resting in the heat of the day. Can you see the form? Can you see the shapes?

#5 It’s time to find the next layer now a brighter lighter mid tone! WOW this tree is coming together. With the corner of your brush add little leaf outliers. Remember your tree those leaves twisting in and out of the light? By now you should see dimensions of form coming out of your canvas.

#6 Finally the highlights are lifting up! Bits of highlighted sparkle. Tree glitter. These are the leaves shining in the sun. Yes that is what Shining in the sun means. The diamond effect all around your trees. The glow. Add delicate touches.
#7 Now breath. You have painted a tree. A great Tree! A fun Tree. Keep practicing your artist eye when you are bored or falling asleep. In no time your dreams will be full of comforting branches.

So these round canvases are weird right? Can I get these? I only have a regular Canvas. Can I frame them. Why am I using them? These are very good questions and very good points.

Round canvases are strange but a lot of fun and believe it or not have a long history in art with a peak of popularity around the Victorian era.

Believe It or Not round canvases are available in a variety of surfaces and sizes. Not to mention there are two really economical ways to use a round canvas their economy packs and you can prime wood rounds.

If you only have a regular canvas a round design is easier to place on it even if dimensions are very different. Simply draw a circle centered in your canvas painting images shown and hang on the wall. It's actually very cool look!

There are tons of frames for round canvases and they're totally making a comeback. There are even Bubble Glass Companies now to give it that cool Victorian look.

Right now I need to be sitting while I'm painting So my objects need to be on a flat surface and round canvases give me an opportunity to paint larger even though I'm confined in this way

For Acrylic April
I use the same brushes, canvas size and colors every year.

The color that is hard for most people to find is Naples Yellow light sometimes Called Titanate Yellow or Even Nickel Titanate Yellow
That can be frustrating for the new artist. What you may not know is outside of the voluntary ATSM there are no standards in art materials.
So on a tube of paint there are bit of info. Color info , safety info and lightfast info. Reading the tube is important but when you are new its hard.
Py53
Nickel Titanium Yellow ( PY 53 ) is opaque and has a low tinting strength. Because it's not overpowering, it can be controlled easily.

Titanate serves as a substitute for lemon yellow which is the traditional cool yellow
Some companies make a hue that is Very close they call Naples yellow light- That is what I am using in my Sennelier paint- Naples Yellow light.

This is the green Bias Yellow

By far this is my absolute favorite cool yellow. There are other cool yellows that you're going to be able to use if for some reason this is hard to find. However, if you can find it, it is one of my favorite colors in my personal paint box.

But here's the problem. The problem is the name on this package of paint. There are two colors, very different from each other, that the art world likes to call Naples Yellow. One is a light yellow green, and is in fact Nickel Titanate Yellow. I went out and found every acrylic paint company that carries the correct green yellow, regardless of what they named it.

The other companies make the orange yellow that they consider to be Naples.

The one on the LEFT is correct. The one on the Right is not a cool yellow.

You can Substitute ANY of these Cool (green) Bias Yellows , Pick one -

Hansa Yellow light
Cadmium Yellow Light
Cadmium Yellow Pale Hue
Lemon Yellow
Bismuth Vanadate
Acrylic April
This was the first year for Acrylic April. Painting daily is the #1 thing an artist can do to improve their painting! skills! The idea we would meet live every day and paint together for a little under an hour for the month of April certainly caught fire. This is a wild event in that we had both word prompts AND full lessons. As far as I know it this was the first daily painting program targeted at beginners. You can find all the videos in order http://bit.ly/AcrylicApril2019Calendar And here is the website with rules

   Acrylic April Testimonials

Lydia Duncan-Mabry : That I truly can do this...my grandmother was an artist and I never really tried thinking I wasn't going to be any good. Now I know I can and I am learning more every day.

Kelly Malouf: ACRYLIC APRIL SHOWED ME quite a lot of things. I can make time to paint every day. I can do paintings I never thought I could. I can commit to doing something that makes me happy and that is OK. All paintings have an ugly phase--but now I know how to get myself out of it ;). I didn't think I'd see improvement, but I did and by completing the 30 day challenge I became proud of myself--such a great feeling.

Lisa Swain Stickability: is 95% of ability!

Catherine Socha Rathbun :... never to look at a painting thinking, “I can’t possibly paint THAT yet.”

Nancy Beeles Lewis: My life time dream at 80 could come true and I am now an artist.

Peggy Ducolon Smith: April Acrylics 2019 showed me that practicing every day will improve my techniques even when I thought I had learned it well already and that everyday can and is a learning experience of some kind (just because I did not like the painting I still learned something that I NEEDED TO LEARN

Keff Green: You have time if you make time. I worked full time and still got my painting done and enjoyed it to the max!

Darbe Lopez: Acrylic April taught me how important it is that other household members support my "me" time

    13 days of Halloween
Every year we meet up to do 13 Halloween paintings. This is so much fun and at this point we have more than 30 total Days of Halloween tutorials. In fact we created a Challenge for anyone that painted all 31 days they would get a free month of Patronage on the website.

I like doing Life-book because it allows for so much growth and well-being with any students. As a teacher, I'm excited about anything that will help you reach your personal art goals. This is one of the only programs that I will participate in and recommend. I do that because I truly believe it's wonderful on every level. First, I enjoy how positive the program is and how focused on individual grow it is. Secondly, the teachers are the best collected together I have seen if your goals are healing, self-awareness, and artistic growth. Last, but not least, the cost of the course outside of materials is very good compared to other programs like this that I don't feel are as richly thought out, driven by a sheer love of sharing creativity, and well-being.
They have a lot of Teachers

As you may be aware with 30 teachers and 80 lessons there's a lot here to the course. You will be exposed to so much in different styles and thoughts in art. Each teacher brings something very special to the year. Yes, there are many faces. But that's just the surface of what I've seen. I've seen dream catchers, sculpture, rock art, and much much more. In fact as a teacher, I am a bit of an odd duck in the group BUT, when am I not? This will be the third series that I have done with Tamra Laporte. I love the work that she does both spiritually, musically and artistically. I think she curates valuable programs for her students .

    New Years Resolutions for Artists

What you guys had to say !!

Joanne LaMar : To paint at least every month. To learn how to sell my paintings instead of just giving them to people who want them and to try new techniques in my paintings. Be bold.
Roseann Amaranto : Accept my artistic style for what it is. I’m more of a whimsical illustrative painter/artist even though I have an art degree and taught for 25 years. It’s what makes me happiest 🌹 💕
Tammy Racicot :To keep evolving into the artistic butterfly I've become. (never in my lifetime did I think I could achieve so much personal growth on so many levels from the most loving person/people who wanted me to succeed. When I never thought I could)
Renee Sanders : My artist New Years resolutions are to paint one painting of something I love every month, participate in Acrylic April and paint something new daily (only April) and paint enough wood circle ornaments to sell at the grandkids secret santa workshop. I am going to make myself a priory. I have put myself and my ambitions on the back burner for 2 years to raise my grandchildren, although they are still with me I am going to find some time for myself
tanya mARTin: Draw and paint everyday. Trust myself enough to venture away from tutorials/art hacks and find my own style. Continue to improve on what i have learned and step out of my comfort zone. Try new mediums and see what they have to offer.
Caren Kaziyev: To challenge myself and not stick with familiar techniques. In 2020 I challenge myself to try new things and be okay with my attempts not looking “perfect”. Just to keep at it.
Pamela Tilley Fisk : To stop judging myself against others. See my own colors.
Kim Nedland : To try and paint, and draw, even if my depression, makes me feel like can't do anything at all.
Brandy Orner : Just paint. Stop agonizing over planning, research and details and JUST PAINT!!!
Bryon Rice To paint more of how I feel, even if it's not realistic..so that others can feel the music I composed, which is the paint and the brush my instrument.
Stacey Wright : to organize all my supplies so I can start using them everyday!! And then start drawing/painting more often at least 3 times a week.. Hard when you have 2 little girls 4 and 7! Also my 7yr old is an amazing artist already and want to work and teach her more so I need to learn more and practice more to teach her skills i wish i was taught at a young age!! So hoping to do alot this year with her
thetolleycrew : My resolutions are to get out of my comfort zone, and paint loose. Not worry about every little detail. To find my own style.
luanajarecki : To enjoy life as it handed to me. Find humor in every aspect. Release my creative juices and make any art I can. At 71 I plan to do much more.

If you Love the Sanderson Sisters and wanted to get your " Amok Amok Amok " on one of these acrylic versions of the Tale Might be Just the trick. (note this is fan art) While the painting is mine The Hocus Pocus Characters that inspired this piece are not.So lets Call these three The Cosplayers of Hocus Pocus -

In the Beginning I created this design
It has been wildly popular. But them I wanted to make some New ideas too this the Meeting of the Halloween Board . The Moon is Cosplaying Jack the Pumpkin King and the 3 sisters are Cosplaying the Sanderson Sisters. All costumes were handmade because you know they are makers.

Need a little help -the video or This Handy Dandy Step by step

How easy is That to paint??
Need something even more simplified ?

It is recommended when doing fan art that you create and paint for learning and enjoyment.
