Hobbit Hole .jpg

As an art teacher I know how much the things we are fans of inspire us. I can just say from personal experience is the science fiction books I read growing up, the movies I watched and the toys I played with really helped me Be molded into a better adult. I mean think about science fiction and the values that it teaches. I have carried with me in my heart the owner of hobbits. The characters from these books taught me life lessons that informed my decisions about love honor and honesty. My gratitude can never be expressed… Except yes it can because I’m an artist. And as an art teacher I get to share that with you so you can express your love of these books. On top of that we have a giveaway with the brush guys. I’ll tell you more about them below and how you can win a sad of Black velvet watercolor brushes to paint your own hobbit and Lord of the rings inspired art.Love the shire and lord of the Rings? YES me too but the thing is most fan art is so advanced beginners can’t take their love of JRR Tolkien world and turn it into their fan art. BUT you know you would love to. So follow along and I will show you how awesome YOU can paint. You keep giving me ideas and I will keep turning them into watercolor process step by step lessons. I love this painting party style explanation of watercolor because I know YOU can paint this . Feel free to change up the colors and play with the splashes . Tag back to me so I can see your paintings. Let me know how its going. Having fun ?

The Shire. This is where I have decided to begin because that’s where the book started for me. In the shire in the hall of a hobbit with around door and a cozy and inviting garden. The first of these watercolor lessons is very simplified so that if your first time painter and have never use watercolor before you can easily achieve this look. I have included traceable that you can find in the PDFs just download them rub graphite on the back tape them down trace over the lines and that will help you get the image onto your watercolor paper. And no tracing is not cheating.

After visiting the Shire I decided we should do a Gandolf the gray. Again using the traceable method if you’re not a person who currently draws will help you have a more enjoyable time with this watercolor project. Throughout the watercolor portions of these projects I am using 140 pound paper, Holbein watercolors and Qor water colors. The complete list of colors in this project are listed here. But of course you can use what you have art is an about being in boxes it’s about decorating the box and changing the way we all think about that box. You’re not supposed to be perfect and you’re not supposed to have artwork that looks exactly like mine. In fact please set your goals to be ones that create enjoyment in your creative process. Pay attention to the way the color bleeds into and flows through the pre-wet paper. It’s really beautiful and almost magical.

For the live on Facebook where we do the much more complicated Shire inspired painting I’ve added white lining with acrylic paint and also inking to create some dramatic contrast in dimension to the work. After this piece we will be doing an acrylic on YouTube and that will be added to the page when it is done.

Now for the brush guys. I have known Jeff and Dave for quite a while now. I even invited them to the YouTube space when I went to film there and it honestly made my time much more fun. They are ambassadors to fine art and art in general in my opinion. And it’s a great joy to work with them anytime. They are sponsoring a giveaway for this watercolor Wednesday . Prize: Black Velvet 3 piece set LIST Value 78.95 SILWC-3000s

Silver Brush Black Velvet

This unique blend of natural squirrel hair and black synthetic filament creates ideal working tools for the watercolorist, silk painter, and artists working with inks, dyes, acrylics or gouache.

Squirrel hair holds large amounts of color and releases it with perfect control. By itself, squirrel is delicate. So Silver blended it with a synthetic to resist wear and maintain a wonderful snap and spring. This soft blend allows multiple layer glazing without disturbing previous colors, yet it’s firm enough to lift color with a gentle scrub.

Black Velvet features polished black ferrules, carefully fitted to gloss black handles, each with a distinctive silver neck band.*
*Series 3008S: Beveled tip black plastic handles for scraping or burnishing.
*Series 3014S ferrules of stainless steel. Flat hardwood handles, lacquered gloss black with silver tips.

Here's what Earline Padgett, watercolorist , decorative painter & teacher says about Black Velvet™

"The best performance only comes from the highest quality tools, and Black Velvet™ is the best I've ever used for watercolor. Their blend of natural squirrel hair with synthetic filaments combines for excellent carrying capacity with control, spring and precise pointing. They are full bodied and have wonderful snap!
As a teacher, I provide loaner brushes for class use. I've found Black Velvet™ to have consistent quality and excellent strength to resist wear. Of the many shapes and sizes available, my favorite is the versatile Oval Wash - which offers not only a broad wash, but also a long slender edge and fine point. I never hesitate to recommend Black Velvet to my students

This set contains one each 3/4 inch Oval Wash, #8 Round, and #1 Script Liner.

I went to the Brush Guys site and found a bunch of Silver Brush introductory videos, so I spent the evening watching them all to help me choose the brush for this giveaway. I first learned about Silver Brushes from an unnamed artist related to you, lol! Being a dedicated viewer to both daughter and mother, for years now I have drooled over those 2 lovely, green handled, Angle brushes!! Now, after watching all the videos on the Brush Guys site, I have so many more Silver brushes on my "dream list"!!! I love so many of the brushes, including the Black Velvet series, but am also really excited about the Silver Brush Renaissance - Cats Tongue! You and John are such a sweet couple and I so enjoy watching you! Congrats on your 200k subs!!

As I perused the brush guys wealth of worthy arting items, I was very intrigued by three choices of Black Velvet Daggers! Omg which size weaponry to go to the canvas armed. Small and precise cut of the quarter inch dagger, so surgical! Medium incision of the 3/8 for normal slice and dice. Large 1 inch Slasher omg! Get the job done in one plunge. Sorry... just love that they are called daggers. Who wouldnt want a brush called dagger?!

I have my eye on the Royal & Langnickel Aqua Flo Water Brush 3 pc. set, just because it looks like a fun and portable way to work with watercolors! The Brush Guys ROCK!!

Oh my I haven’t been to the Brush Guys before! They have so many brushes to choose from. I think I would like to try the Richeson Extreme Kolinsky in a number 8 or 6 round. The description sounds devine. But alas I am a Canadian and although we are the friendliest of all nations we have been cursed into paying obscene amount of money for art supplies. It is a cross all Canadian artist must bear! Maybe one day I will find an American patron who will grace me with art supplies. A girl can dream, right?

I think my favorite at the moment is the Silver Brush Golden Short Handled Golden 16. I did order the goat watercolor hair brush hat you used in the hobbit door painting yesterday and I cannot wait to get it. I haven’t even tried water color before but when I saw you are doing hibit houses, things related to Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter I just knew I needed to learn as those are my husbands favorite shows/movies!!! He loves all of my acrylic paintings and even has some in his mancave so I’m sure these you will be teaching us will end up out there too!! I’m actually excited and am not even a fan of sci-fi but I’m definitely a fan of yours Cinnamon!

While looking on the Brush Guys site I was attracted to the Blue Ice from Dynasty brushes. Mainly because I love snow and my favorite colors are blue and silver. So I had to read about them. They are pretty with some blue and white bristles. They are for heavy mediums like chalk paint. I may have to get some. But I'm afraid I wouldn't want to mess them up. Maybe I could buy one and frame it to hang in the craft room.
